Villa Augusti Sold
06/09/2007
As dear as our headquarters building was to many of us, Sir Rodney in particular, it has become impossible to sustain the facility. While a grand and historic structure, it was not designed for historic preservation. It lacked sufficient insulation and weatherstripping, resulting in a cost of $100/day just to operate the air conditioning. The building had become a serious drain on our limited resources, and the Board made the hard decision to preserve the financial integrity of our Society by placing it up for sale. The new owner intends to upgrade and preserve the building, so we feel it's in good hands.
There will be a second Villa Augusti, but perhaps not immediately. For now, the proceeds from the sale are being invested. We may soon be able to rent temporary facilities from the interest, freeing other sources of income to be used for Society projects. At an appropriate date, we may call on you for donations toward a building fund to construct a purpose-built facility to house our society, but it's not yet clear when that will be.
